The PTO WISE Committee is looking for a new team member!
We are in need of a Volunteer Coordinator to take over as soon as possible, and the role can be filled by either one person or the duties can be split between two people.  This position is essential to the day-to-day running of the WISE program during each session, and WISE cannot run without it.  Responsibilities for the WISE Volunteer Coordinator role include:

  1. Recruit volunteers for attendance and dismissal and be the point of contact for the volunteers throughout the session. (Volunteers have already been recruited for this session!)
  2. Maintain stock of WISE snacks.  Historically, snacks have been purchased and delivered by Costco.  The Coordinator is reimbursed for the cost of the snacks.
  3. Communicate with parents and the WISE committee regarding student discipline concerns.
  4. Update the WISE binder once per session.  This may include providing a list of WISE enrollees to teachers, preparing attendance lists, etc.
  5. Monitor WISE e-mail for attendance and dismissal related concerns.

Whittier Wildcat Fun Run
It’s time to get ready for the Wildcat Fun Run, a PTO Fundraiser that is walk/run-a-thon, kid style! Instead of selling wrapping paper or other stuff, this is simple and fun. It is a way for kids to do something healthy, with a significant fundraising benefit. Students gather pledges for the PTO and either run laps or participate at whatever level feels comfortable. They will be joined by the Wildcat mascot on Whittier field for 40 minutes of fun, accompanied by their favorite music.  The Wildcat Fun Run is one of our largest fundraisers of the year.  This year, our goal is to raise $16,000 or $50 per child.

To get started, go to www.thegetmovincrew.com and select “Register Your Child”. It takes about 2 minutes.  More details are included in the letter about the run.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email the committee at FunRun@WhittierPTO.org.

We are still looking for volunteers to help on the day of the run (10/10).  Sign up to help and watch your kid participate: https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/2417377/false#/invitation

Birthday Books
Through Whittier PTO’s Birthday Books program you can give a special gift for your child’s birthday (or other special occasion) while also helping to add new books to Whittier Library’s collection!  Please see the letter and form for details.  You can also learn about how to volunteer for the program on the Birthday Books page of the PTO website.

Box Tops
Support Whittier with the Box Tops for Education program.  It’s easy!  Just clip and save Box Tops from products you normally buy and send them to school with your child.  They quickly add up to significant dollars over the school year.  Please see the flyer for more information.

Never Too Early to Start Thinking about the Yearbook!
The Yearbook Committee will be transitioning the way Whittier Yearbooks are ordered. When placing orders electronically, parents will order directly through the yearbook company Treering, which will give the added option of personalizing pages of the yearbook with your own memories. Treering is currently having a promotion, where if you order by September 30th, you get 15% off your purchase.

When yearbook orders are taken in the spring, you will be able to place orders electronically (and personalize pages) through Treering.  You will also have the option to order via check or cash with Whittier, but that option will come at an additional cost and without the personalized pages.

To save 15% on your yearbook, please see the attached flyer for more information.  Also, remember if you have photos to contribute to the yearbook, please add them to the Dropbox.
