Whittier at the Movies – December 14
Join us after school this Friday, December 14 for the movie Smallfoot! Students will be able to purchase tickets for $2 and snacks/goodies for $1 each. An Online Permission Form must be submitted in order for your unaccompanied child(ren) to attend the movie. Permission Forms must be submitted by Thursday, December 13. This is a super fun event for students that depends solely on volunteers and we still need 7 more volunteers to sell tickets, sell concessions, and work crowd control. WISE REGISTRATION Is Open! Registration Deadlines this Week!
WISE registration is open! Your child should have received the hard copy brochure or check it out online hereScholarship requests and early bird pricing ends on Wednesday, December 12.  The final deadline for WISE registration is Friday, December 14. No late registrations will be accepted.Registration is online only. Please email wisewhittier@gmail.com if you need special accommodations or call Maureen at 303-929-6955.

Please note: Most classes start the week of Monday, January 7, however, Chicago Edge Soccer, Multi-Sport Madness (Younger Kids) and Multi-Sport Madness (Older Kids) start the week of February 4 (due to space restrictions in the gym during January).

Whittier Trivia Night- Early Bird Discount
Buy your early-bird tickets today for the 4th Annual Whittier Trivia Night Fundraiser on Saturday, February 9.  Formed trivia teams are NOT required for registration. Don’t miss one of the most anticipated events that benefits Whittier students, school staff, and your social life.  Be a part of the fun that supports a great cause!

Not sure if Trivia is for you?  You can still join the fun by volunteering to work during the event as a spotter or ticket seller!  Click here to sign up to volunteer.


Volunteers Needed for the Winter Session of WISE!
The Winter 2019 session of WISE starts on Monday, January 7th and runs through Thursday, March 21st. We need your help to fill 20 weekly volunteer slots for the program to run (3 attendance and 2 dismissal volunteers for each day of WISE.) The signup can be found here.  Attendance volunteers receive $50 off one class, to be given as a refund after registration ends.  Thanks for your continued support of WISE! The program couldn’t run without our volunteers.

Whittier Brownies Toy Drive for Marillac House
From December 10 to December 19, Whittier Brownie Troop 45556 is collectingnew and unwrapped donations for children 12 and through Marillac House, and organization serving Chicago West Side families.  Recommended items include toys, games, puzzles, books, hats, scarves, and gloves.  Please leave donations in the Whittier lobby.  See the flyer for more information.  Thank you!

Whittier Diversity Committee- Save these Dates!
Please save the dates for the following Whittier Diversity Committee events, and note that the next general meeting will be in February 2019:

  • January 16th for the Podcast Club at 7 pm at Dole Library Meeting Room.  Come join us as we watch a 20-30 minute TED talk together, then have a discussion in a safe space.  We are looking for different topics to discuss that include race, culture, gender, socioeconomics, or disability. Join the chat and share your thoughts.  All are welcome.
  • February 26, 2019 when the Whittier 101 Series continues with a very informative presentation by Whittier Principal Mr. Robinson and other staff on behavioral supports available to our Whittier students.  Childcare provided.
  • April 23, 2019 for a repeat lecture in our Whittier 101 Series with Whittier Principal Mr. Robinson and other staff on academic support services and evaluation for our Whittier students.  It will explain the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).  Childcare provided.

D97 Green Teams Receive Green Award
The D97 Green Teams have been awarded a Green Award for Sustainability (certificate of recognition) for 2018 from the Oak Park Environment and Energy Commission for making a valuable contribution to sustainability in the Village of Oak Park.  Their efforts have included running school gardens, teaching about organic gardening practices and composting, planting native gardens, promoting native gardens through the WCWO PTO fundraisers, donating produce to our local food pantry, and hosting the first D97 School Garden Tour.  Congratulations, D97 Green Teams!

Recycle Your Old Holiday Lights at Whittier!
Did your holiday lights not survive the long summer? The Whittier Green Team can help! We will recycle strands of holiday lights and extension cords that no longer work. Drop them in the bin in the vestibule by Whittier’s front office. Keep us in mind as you pull out those holiday decorations!
